Vicky van Dyk, the CEO’s personal assistant at Namibia Media Holdings (NMH), says her job description entails managing appointments, making travel arrangements, filing, assisting various divisional departments, receiving calls, various correspondence, maintenance of building, fleet management, arranging and/or assisting with events and basically assisting everybody with whatever requests come up.
Van Dyk has always been more of an administrative person and choosing a career path actually became easy.
“I have always enjoyed helping people be organised and assisting with whatever and wherever I can, arranging events, managing a calendar or even just making a cup of coffee,” she says.
She studied a secretarial course after completing matric. “I think I became qualified at my job through years of experience,” she says
What makes Van Dyk’s work easier is that she does what’s required from her and she avoids using the statement “this is not in my job description”.
“Being in an administrative position you must able to do what is asked from you and go the extra mile in order to ensure that your work is done properly, efficiently and effectively,” she says.
